A Week of Witchy Adventures: London, Spirits, and A Little Quiet (Finally!)

A Week of Witchy Adventures: London, Spirits, and A Little Quiet (Finally!)

After a week of grief, glitter, and honouring our loved one, the universe decided it was time to give me a bit of breathing room. The two eldest girls went off on a trip to London this week, leaving me with just the little ones. You’d think that with two out of four gone, things would quiet down. Spoiler: they did not.

The trip to London was all they talked about for days beforehand. excited about visiting Buckingham Palace because, “Maybe we’ll see a ghost!”.

When they left, I had visions of peace, quiet, and a calm, spiritually aligned week ahead. I imagined hot cups of tea, meditation, maybe even reading a book HA! I forgot that the littlest ones don’t believe in calm. The 7 year old spent the first morning “summoning” a cloud to bring their siblings back. Meanwhile, the toddler discovered a new and exciting way to spread peanut butter across the entire kitchen, which the dog didn’t mind in the slightest. Who needs a spell book when you have a toddler armed with a sharpie his new favourite accessory.

With two of the kids off exploring the big city, it gave me time to focus on just the youngest. We spent some time up the lane, which, in true witchy family fashion, involved them searching for magical creatures and me trying to stop the toddler from carrying every stick he found so he could ‘copy’ the dog.

We’ve also been continuing with our nightly candle ritual to honour our loved one. Even with the two eldest gone, we didn’t skip a night. The 7 year old was very serious about it, while the toddler mostly just liked watching the candle flicker and trying to blow it out. Toddlers and fire always a winning combination, right?

Meanwhile in London the girls have been sending updates from London, and let me tell you, they’re having the time of their lives. They’ve been for a ride on the London eye, seen Six the Musical and ridden on the tube lots, and apparently, the 10 year old has now decided that Buckingham Palace is definitely home to a coven of witches. I’m inclined to believe them, to be honest.

The eldest swears she sensed something while in Buckingham, and I’ve received more than one excited voice message about the energy of the place. I have no doubt they’re going to come home with tales of spirits, hidden magic, and probably a new obsession with English history.

The house felt a little emptier without the eldest pair, but it’s also nice to have this time to focus on the younger ones. The 7 year old has been more talkative, sharing all kinds of wild theories about the weird and wonderful facts she’s learnt this week, while the toddler has been... well, he’s mostly been practicing his new role as chaos coordinator. Very seriously might I add.

Soon, they will be back from their London adventures, and I know the house will be buzzing with new energy, stories of the city, and probably a whole lot of questions about why we don’t have a tube in the countryside. (Spoiler: I don’t know how to explain that in a way they’ll accept.) I can’t wait to hear all about their trip, but I’m also savouring these last few moments of semi-calm.

So, until the big city energy returns, we’ll keep lighting our candles, connecting with the trees, and trying not to let the toddlers chew on any more crystals. It’s been a week of quiet(ish) reflection, and as always, a little bit of magic sprinkled on top. But rest assured, the moment those two walk back in the door, it’ll be back to full-on witchy mayhem just the way we like it.
